Fat Boy’s
November 26, 2009
By Dave Kajihiro
Let the name speak for itself! FAT BOY’S. I think the drive-in is called that because the food is so good you’ll definitely eat a lot and gain weight. For healthy eaters, they offer brown rice and toss salad as options. Either way, the food is good. I personally like white rice and macaroni salad, the more mayo the better. Yummm!
Fat Boy’s is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I haven’t visited the Kailua location yet but when you walk into the Waipio location the first thing you’ll notice is just how clean and neat the place is kept. They have an open kitchen so you can watch them cook and wash the dishes too!
For breakfast, I recommend their fried rice omelet plate. It comes with their special fried rice wrapped in an egg and homemade corned beef hash topped with an egg for $7.25. Or you can order their three egg omelet with your favorite meat, green onions, and cheese for $6.25.
For lunch and dinner, I recommend ordering a mixed plate that comes with two scoops of rice and either toss or macaroni salad. You can choose any two items ranging from garlic chicken, beef stew, curry, teriyaki chicken, kalua cabbage, pork chops, chili, to many more, for $7.50. If you like bentos, they have a garlic chicken bento for $3.75 and the Fat Boy’s bento that comes with garlic chicken, spam, teri beef, mahi, and a hotdog for $5.75.
If you like local kine grinds, check out Fat Boy’s!

Noho’s Hawaiian Cafe

Oregon is famous for their beautiful coastline and waterfalls. Nestled between all of this beautiful scenery is a restaurant that will fill your belly and instantly take you back to the Islands.
This restaurant is Noho’s Hawaiian Café. Noho’s Hawaiian Café is decorated with surfboards and other Island décor which projects an Island-style vibe that made me feel at home.
More importantly, the food at Noho’s is simply “onolicious,” delicious for those who need the translation. Noho’s kalua pig was “broke the mouth” good. The ahi poke was one of the best I have ever tasted. I also had the pleasure of trying Noho’s shoyu chicken, noodles, and their awesome macaroni salad. What can I say; everything I tried was authentic “onolicious” local Island-style food. There are a lot of wannabe Hawaiian-style restaurants out there but Noho’s is the real deal.
I had the pleasure of meeting Noho on a recent trip to Portland and let me tell you, Noho never forgot where he came from. He still remembers what the Aloha spirit is all about. Noho, your hospitality really made everyone’s trip to Oregon one to remember.Mahalo!! Check out Noho’s, you will not be disappointed.

Ray’s Kiawe Broiled Chicken

When you visit Haleiwa Town on Oahu, Hawaii, you have to stop at Ray’s Kiawe Broiled Chicken. It is located along Kamehameha Highway next to Spagettini Restaurant. You can’t miss it as it is literally a tent and trailer parked alongside the road in the middle of Haleiwa Town. Just follow the aroma of the smoke from the rotisserie chicken cooking on the open fire. A whole chicken is $9.00, side order rice is $1.00 and soda or juice is 75 cents.

Golden House Chinese Cuisine Restaurant – Mukilteo, WA
March 5, 2008
By Steve Kajihiro
When I first moved to Washington, I met the owner/chef Charlie over at Golden House Chinese Cuisine Restaurant. Charlie came over to our table and introduced himself. He told us that he used to live and own a restaurant in Hawai’i. Anyway, the food there reminds me of chinese food back home in Hawai’i. He has cake noodle, just like back home. I normally get the cake noodle with beef broccoli. They also have one of my favorites, (cold) ginger chicken but I think you have to call them early for that dish. Anyway, the honey walnut prawns is also a winner.
So, the next time you are in the area. Stop by and check out this place. This place reminds me of the Chinese food by home in Hawai’i.
In my opinion, Golden House is an 10 out of 10 in Chinese Restaurants in the area. It’s becasue they serve good food and they make you feel at home. Good friendly atmosphere.
