Island Music Showcase – AFATIA 5:54
February 29, 2008
By Steve Kajihiro

Well, I’m not music guy or a professional reviewer for music. But, what I can say is AFATIA 5:54 is one of the best CD’s that I heard in a long time. In June 2007, I was visiting Las Vegas and a friend gave me this CD. I popped in my laptop and could not stop listening to it. For me, it is very rare that I really like every song on an CD. But, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard Afatia’s voice, who reminded me of Luther Vandross. Afatia is R&B style singer with a touch of a Polynesian vibe. His voice is smooth and unlike anything I have heard. One of my favorite songs from the CD is All I’ve Got, All Night Long, and Layin’ It Down. Afatia also did an awesome job with his tribute to Luther Vandross with his version of “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”.
If the name sounds familiar, Afatia Thompson was a running back for the University of Hawai’i Warriors Football Team.
This is one of those CD’s that I would highly recommend. So, if you don’t have Afatia’s CD already, you can purchase it from his website at www.afatia.com. or listen to Afatia at www.pipeline2paradise.com.

Ezell’s Famous Chicken – Renton, Washington
February 29, 2008
By Steve Kajihiro
Today, I stopped at Ezell’s Famous Chicken in Renton, Washington. My buddy Bruce and I, decided to stop there for a snack on our way to dinner since we heard the Oprah likes the chicken. Eh…no laugh…we were hungry. Anyway, this branch of Ezell’s opened in the past few months so it looked really nice. Because I’m on a diet and we were on our way to dinner, I had the Snack Pack. This included one thigh, a drumstick, and a bun. And my buddy had the 1/2 pound of chicken strips.
I ordered the original chicken and it was really juicy and crispy but it was missing something….it seems that it needed a little more salt for my taste. I think I’m so used to Albertson’s or Zippy’s chicken, which is a little more salty. Anyway, I used the honey mustard sauce and it tasted great. The bun was really good, it reminded me of the Sweet Bread in Read more

Lawry’s The Prime Rib Restaurant – Las Vegas, NV
February 28, 2008
By Steve Kajihiro
For years, my friend Travis was raving about Lawry’s The Prime Rib Restaurant in Las Vegas. Well on my last trip to Las Vegas, Travis and a group of our friends went to Lawry’s. The dress code was no slippers, jeans, t-shirt, or athletic wear….wow….must be high class. It’s a good thing, I had my one and only Dockers pants with me on this trip. When we got there, we opted for valet parking and waited to be seated for about 15 minutes. The restaurant was dimly lit and was really nice.
I ordered the Prime Rib-Beef Bowl cut, this is described as double cut, as served to the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl players. I think it was about 2 lbs. And yes, I ate it all, including the rest of my dinner. Read more
